Book Recommendation: Troublemakers by Carla Shalaby

Summary: Author Carla Shalaby suggests that "troublemakers," ie children who act out repeatedly, should be viewed as canaries in a coal mine - their behavior is often symptomatic of a toxic environment, rather than an individual problem. In her piece A Letter to Teachers she poetically describes how we might abandon our normal approach and instead consider how to "be love."

"Being love is unfamiliar and uncomfortable. It requires an act of imagination, a leap of faith, and an extraordinary degree of hard work."
